Doctor Violeta Pekovic from Pljevlja claims that she has been suffering a continuous campaign of discrediting on social networks for a year and a half, but Montenegrin institutions are not taking anything to protect her – the Pljevlja prosecutor’s office instructed her to seek justice and protection from persecution in Serbia, despite the fact that the photos, correspondence, but and insults against her published on profiles from Montenegro.
Peković showed “Vijesta” several profiles on which edited photos, fabricated conversations and content were published, which aim to destroy her reputation as a person, mother, wife and doctor.
However, the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office (ODT) in Pljevlja declared that it had no local jurisdiction and handed the case over to Serbia, due to the alleged residence of the reported person.
After that, Peković sought protection from the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office in vain.
On November 27, 2024, the ODT Pljevlja responded to “Vijesta” that the case files formed in connection with the criminal complaint to which the questions refer were “transferred to the competent judicial body of the Republic of Serbia”:
“Because it follows from the case file that the reported person resides in Belgrade, as well as that the act of committing the criminal offense was undertaken on the territory of the Republic of Serbia.”
However, since December 2 of last year, they will not explain on the basis of which they announced that they had no local jurisdiction, given that the injured party was in Pljevlja at the time when the consequences occurred, but also what measures and actions they took before instead, they transferred the case files to the Serbian prosecution.
Peković told “Vijesta” that since June 2023, until today, they have been continuously publishing photomontage pictures and fictional correspondence with several people on social networks, as well as on certain portals. She submitted evidence about this to the newsroom.
“I reported to the Podgorica Security Department, the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Pljevlja, the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office, but until today I have not received any response, i.e. institutional protection”, she told “Vijesta”.
In August 2024, she filed a complaint with the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Pljevlja about the persecution, which, as she claims, does not abate.
“I reported that a Facebook page – Oglasi BP published my edited photo with explicit content, and stated in the report that there was a high degree of suspicion that a certain person participated in it S. J. and people close to her from the village of Meljak, Belgrade. Given that during her temporary stay in Montenegro at the time, she presented herself as a high-ranking employee of the Security and Information Agency (BIA), this leads to the suspicion that ODT, out of fear of Serbia’s security structures, sent the case files to colleagues in Belgrade and, of course, this has not yet been acted upon”, she told “Vijesta”.
She points out that the publication of edited content, which those persecuting her claim to be original, is aimed at trying to discredit her as a person, mother, doctor, wife.
She pointed out that during the continuous persecution of SJ, she is trying to convince the public that what is being published about Peković is correct, corroborating this with the claims that “employees in the security services have those they want on surveillance measures”…
Peković appealed to state institutions to do their job and protect her from persecution:
“Which by their inaction only increases, which resulted in numerous problems that I am going through. ODT Pljevlja, before carrying out any action, packed up the case files and sent them to Serbia, because she was registered as a citizen of Serbia. They did not take into account that the place where the crime was committed was Montenegro and Montenegrin Facebook pages. When I asked them what they did about my application, they did not answer at first, and after insisting, they said that they had forwarded the case to Serbia. I see that they don’t answer to you either, and that all points to some kind of corruption, cover-up and hiding of powerful people from the security services. The result of their inaction is that the people who persecute me freely, without fear of criminal responsibility, continue to persecute and attempt to discredit me. Malten, they continue to destroy my life and the life of my child, but the country of which we are citizens is blind to it, or they just don’t care because their lives are not at stake,” she said.
And VDT Marković is silent
In a complaint sent to the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office on August 28 of last year, Dr. Peković demanded that the VDT, in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Act, perform supervision and give instructions for further action and prosecution of her criminal report:
“For the reason that they did not take the measures and actions that they were required to do according to the criminal report, but handed over the complete file of the case for further processing to the competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia, which are neither locally competent to handle the mentioned case, nor can they conduct a prosecutor’s investigation in order to collect evidence and further prosecution of the perpetrator”…
And in the VDT letter Milorad Marković she wrote about all the ways someone is trying to destroy her life, editing fake correspondence that allegedly arranges intimate meetings…
“The fact that no one is reacting gives me a legitimate reason to suspect that they are protecting the pursuers, because in order to obtain evidence, the ODT of Pljevlja had to order the Police Directorate, i.e. the Sector for the fight against crime, more precisely their Department for the suppression of high-tech crime , to carry out expert examinations and determine from which phone numbers and whose ownership they are, the edited correspondence and photos sent to my husband and others, but also who are the moderators Facebook pages where these fabrications were published. Also, during the expert examination, it would be determined whether and who received all the photo montages created only to cause damage to me. In the letter to the VDT, I stated how important it was that the prosecutor’s office in Pljevlja proceed in that case, I also asked for urgency, because I knew that there was a high degree of certainty that the reported perpetrators would repeat the crime, but obviously they are not interested, because they are not in neither they nor their family members are concerned,” Peković said.
She explained that the citizen of Serbia, whom she claims was behind the attack on her, was in Montenegro to help run an election campaign for a political party that is part of the current government.
“The persecutors are trying to convince the public that the announcements are true, referring to their alleged position in the security structures. Their behavior and the institutions’ inaction indicate that the state protects them, not the victims”.
