The sumptuous opera from London HOFFMAN’S TALES is broadcast live in CineStar cinemas
The beginning of the year 2025 marks the lavish performance of the opera from London, “Hoffman’s Tales”, performed by the famous “Royal Ballet & Opera” (Royal Opera House) on January 15 at 7:30 pm in CineStar cinemas in Belgrade and Novi Sad. The live broadcast of four Offenbach stories awaits the audience with exceptional performers, scenography and lavish costumes, directed by Damian Michelet, winner of the Laurence Olivier Award.
Juan Diego Florez leads a fantastic artistic team in this Offenbach opera. Through the haze of years, the poet recalls the women he loved. But when it comes to matters of the heart, nothing is as it seems. Especially when the devil himself is involved… Going back to his school days, Hoffman relives his childhood romance with Olimpia, a model student in every sense. The failed love follows him into adulthood, where the dancer Antonija was taken from him too soon. Meanwhile, the sensual courtesan Juliet has a secret plan of her own. As memory and imagination blur, will Hoffman find the enigmatic Stella before it’s too late?
Offenbach’s best-known piece of music may be “Kan-Kan,” but “The Hoffmann Stories” has its fair share of popular tunes, including the rousing “Barcarola.” Olympia’s “Doll’s Song” is a dazzling presentation of the soprano voice in its most luxurious form. In the original opera libretto, she is a living puppet who runs out of strength during her song, and needs ‘cheering’ to continue her performance.
