There are architects who color surfaces and others who manage to give color three-dimensionality. As did the undisputed master of the theme, the Mexican Luis Barragán or our Gio Ponti, not surprisingly a great admirer of the former. And how does it happen in this project Marcante-Testa study for the renovation of an apartment in Milannot far from the “via di Gio Ponti” with his series of “typical houses” designed to decode the canons of modern architecture between the two wars.
«Color is important just like spatial interaction, which here becomes an element of attention to catch the eye and create new perspectives”, say the architects.
The apartment of 150 m2 with three bedrooms and three bathroomsdesigned for a professional couple with a child, is located on the top floor of a building designed by the engineer-architect Roberto Carlo Dell’Acqua in 1927overlooking the Stelline Park: «Yes presented strong critical issues due to the height and the reduced windows in the attic part overlooking the internal courtyard”, explain the architects. In fact, half an apartment was unlivable precisely because of these architectural limitations.
The designers carried out complex work on the cabinet making, with regards to the shapes, materials and colours. Starting from the frames of the French windows which give inspiration for custom-made furnishings like the desk and shelves at the entrance, so also for the kitchen cabinets; or the oak partition with crossed veneer, an element that replaces the brickwork in the corridor.
With a similar thought, the containing wall-boiserie of the living room enhances the relationship with the terrace and the trees in the park. And here the floral wallpaper by William Morris.
The doors with articulated geometry become gods portals capable of modifying spacesbut be careful: not to close them completely but rather to make them flexible and frame the perspectives in environments such as the living room with the kitchen and the entrance with the corridor. “Architectural Frames” they define them i Striking-Foreheadin a game of modules that allows thethe entrance space to the apartment to become an additional study room, an isolated niche decorated in green for working from home.
In a complex context like this, little space is left for movable furnishings, which in fact have been rightly chosen with very calibrated care.
