Many passengers recently had to deal with massive cancellations and delays of flights at St. Petersburg airport amid heavy snowfalls that hit the city. People stuck in Pulkovo even had to sleep on the floor.

Specialists from the St. Petersburg Rospotrebnadzor told what can be done if a flight is delayed. It turned out that at least we could get the money back for the tickets. In such a situation, air passengers have the right to refuse the flight. “Such a refusal to transport is considered forced, and the carrier is obliged to return the cost of the air ticket even if the ticket was “non-refundable,” indicated the press service of the St. Petersburg department of the department.

Passengers can also demand damages and compensation for moral damages. “The passenger has the right to file a claim, attaching copies of documents confirming the losses incurred,” Rospotrebnadzor explained, adding that for domestic transportation, the claim is filed within six months.

In addition, the carrier company may be required to pay a fine for late delivery of the passenger to the destination. We are talking about an amount of 25% of the established minimum wage for each hour of delay, but no more than 50% of the cost of the air ticket, experts clarified. At the same time, it is only possible to achieve fines if the carrier does not prove that the delay arose as a result of circumstances beyond his control.

Finally, passengers whose flights were delayed have the right to use the luggage storage service, mother and child room, and receive refreshments for free. The carrier is obliged to provide hot meals when the flight is delayed for more than four hours, and hotel accommodation when waiting for the departure of the flight for more than eight hours during the day and more than six hours at night, the St. Petersburg department of the department recalled.
