Beneath from the Thomas Noone Dance company is the show that we will be able to see on Saturday, January 18, at 8:00 p.m., at El Progrés, as part of the ‘Fem Dansa’ festival of the Department of Culture. A show co-produced by Mercat de les Flors that explores the beauty of the trio’s body language. Tickets can be purchased online entrades.martorell.cat.

British Thomas Noone presents Beneatha plastic and physical proposal, inspired by the observation of the limitations that society imposes on the use of space. The piece is composed of a series of trios, each with a different visual and emotional texture, which unfold in a space dominated by a triangular light sculpture. Beneath (below) refers to the complex system of rules and interpretations that govern action, to what underlies every gesture, to the dark animal that dwells in each of us.

The show is a study of the choreographic possibilities offered by the trio format. The choreographer works on six different pieces: a first without physical contact, a second with little contact, a third with intention, and a fourth with intensity and presence, with six dancers on stage (sum of two trios) to move on to the fifth part, the deadlift, and at the end, where the two trios dance simultaneously in a crescendo of scenic force.

“The way we interact with each other is governed by a complex set of rules. These influence our body language, how we behave physically, how we perceive the other, how we think and react”, explains Noone. By observing others we can see ourselves, spot virtues and flaws, question how these rules define us.

“It’s a very refined and almost austere show”, details Thomas Noone. “We only have a reflective floor and a triangle of light. The idea of three is also reflected in the music and the scenography, and we concentrate on the body to show it off as much as possible.” The lighting, with a triangle-shaped lamp above the dancers’ heads, and the colors of the costumes also take this tertiary form.
