Indirect accusations are flying – pro-Kremlin media outlets are quoting the words of the future US president’s son, Donald Trump Jr.
On the social network X (formerly Twitter), he posted the following post:
“Oh, sure, Los Angeles firefighters donated some of their supplies to Ukraine,” he wrote.
This post was later shared by businessman Elon Musk, noting that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) sent aid funds to Ukraine’s State Emergency Management Agency during the administration of President Joe Biden.
The equipment was transferred, but not critical
Los Angeles Fire Department 2022 indeed shared some equipment with Ukraine.
Department website in a published message it even details what exactly was given to Ukraine. It is also emphasized that the equipment was handed over not only by the Los Angeles Fire Department – there were more donors.
At that time, about five trucks were assembled for the shipment of equipment and supplies abroad.
It is indicated that the collection of aid was initiated by Igor Nisis, a firefighter and paramedic of the Monrovia Fire Department.
Various public safety agencies donated surplus items such as hoses, nozzles, handcuffs, helmets, bulletproof vests and other related personal safety equipment.
These five truckloads of equipment sent to Ukraine would not change the course of controlling the currently raging fires, as this is a very insignificant number compared to the forces currently deployed.
in the Southern California region currently working 14 thousand firefighters, assisted by 84 aircraft and 1,354 fire engines, said Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna.
The circumstances did not depend on the firefighters
Meteorologists in California have warned that the strong winds that fueled fires raging in the Los Angeles area will intensify again this week, according to the BBC news service.
Considering that there has been almost no rain in and around Los Angeles for the past three months, the fire risk remains very high in the multi-million dollar city and its mountainous surroundings.
According to California fire experts, the cause of the origin of these fires is still under investigation.
However, it is already noted that the environment was favorable for ignition. National Weather Service office in Los Angeles on January 7 of this year warnedthat low humidity and spreading winds of up to 100 km/h in some areas will promote massive fires “with extreme fire behaviour”.
15min verdict: context is missing. Although some of the excess equipment was indeed transferred to Ukraine, these were insignificant amounts of safety measures that would not have changed the course of firefighting in any way.
