Acting US President Joe Biden has decided to remove Cuba from the blacklist of states that support terrorism.
The gesture will “encourage” the talks held under the auspices of the Catholic Church for the release of a “significant number of political prisoners” from the island, a senior American official said on Tuesday.
This surprise and highly political decision is a ‘gesture of goodwill’, the quoted source said, saying he hoped the releases would take place before Republican Donald Trump, whose party has historically been very hostile to the Cuban communist authorities, is sworn in on Monday.
