Nintendo is gearing up to release the successor to the popular Switch console, and industry rumors suggest we’ll get an official announcement this week.
According to several credible sources, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16, with a presentation that will focus mainly on the console and its technical specifications.
Nintendo Switch 2: Intense preparations for release and prices
Although the company still keeps the official secret, information published on a French website suggests a price of around 399 euros for the new console.
This price strategically positions it against the PlayStation 5, offering an attractive alternative for gamers.
The games will cost between 69 and 79 euros, and the Nintendo Switch Online service may undergo a price adjustment.
Technical specifications and improvements
According to information appearing online, the new console will benefit from 12GB of RAM (compared to 4GB in the current model) and 256GB of internal storage space.
The Joy-Cons will be magnetically attached and have larger SL and SR buttons, plus a new “C” button whose functionality remains a mystery for now.
Game library and compatibility
Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be compatible with games from the original console and will include the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Additionally, it looks like we’ll be getting big releases like a new Mario Kart with the console and a 3D Mario game for the 2025 holiday season.
Square Enix is preparing Final Fantasy 7 Remake for 2025 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for 2026, while Ubisoft will bring Assassin’s Creed Mirage in the release period.
