The first iPhone chips produced in the United States are arriving

A historic step for Apple and the tech industry: the production of A-series chips made entirely in the United States is about to become a reality. According to a report by Nikkei AsiaApple is reportedly in the final stages of starting mass production at the new factory TSMC in Arizona.

After months of rigorous testing, the experimental production phase concluded successfully. Apple is currently undergoing final testing to ensure these chips meet the high quality and performance standards required. According to sources, the first batches of chips ready for mass production could be completed as early as this quarter, subject to the conclusion of quality control processes.

The new TSMC plant, located near Phoenix, will focus primarily on the production of A-series chips intended for Apple devicesespecially for older models. Among the expected chips we find:

  • A16 Bionic: currently mounted on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
  • S9: Used in the Apple Watch Ultra 2, known for its efficiency and advanced features.

This marks an important milestone, as it will be the first time that Apple Silicon chips will be produced directly on US soil.

The choice to move part of the manufacturing in the United States it is not only symbolic, but strategic. In a global context where supply chain security is increasingly crucial, producing chips in America represents an important step towards technological independence. Furthermore, reducing dependence on Asian plants, particularly those in Taiwan, could offer significant benefits in terms of logistics and political stability.

The move not only affects Apple, but also represents a strong message for the entire tech sector. With massive investments and collaborations between leading companies like TSMC and Apple, the United States is reaffirming its role in the global technology landscape. Interestingly, this decision could open up new opportunities for the local production of other critical components, such as M-series chips for Mac.
