Only one scene of 300 directed by Zack Snyder was shot outdoors, otherwise the actors worked in the studio. However, working on carefully planned sets did not prevent accidents at all.
“It was crazy,” said Gerard Butler, who played King Leonidas in the movie 300 (2007), about the number of injured actors and extras on set People magazine in the interview.
“I remember how every day someone was taken to the hospital. While fighting, it turned around, there was a guy on the other side, and then a spear hit him in the eye. Another time, someone just fell and broke their ankle.”
300 was filmed for 60 days, so if Butler is not exaggerating, the same number of people were dragged from the filming.
Gerard Butler himself survived doing the 300 with one skin intact, but nearly drowned six years later while making the 2012 sports drama Chasing Mavericks.
“I thought I was going to die”, the actor described the situation in which he was taken to the hospital and ended up being resuscitated with a defibrillator.
“It was tough”.
Next, Gerard Butler will be seen in the sequel to Den of Thieves, which premieres in Finland next week.
Warner Bros. Pictures described 300 as follows around the time of its premiere:
“300 is the powerful story of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, where King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. The bravery and sacrifices of soldiers facing insurmountable obstacles inspired all of Greece to unite against the Persian enemy and set boundaries for democracy.”
At the moment, the 300 can only be seen in Finland as rental and sales versions. The situation is the same with 300: Rise of an Empire (2014).
