As the Biden administration prepares to leave office, it is reportedly urging European partners to support the transfer of $300 billion in frozen Russian central bank assets to a special account as leverage in negotiations with Moscow, CNN reports.
It seems that the strategy aims to pressure Moscow by signaling that the funds could only be recovered through negotiations with Ukraine.
“If you want to get this money, you’re going to have to negotiate,” a source told CNN.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said in an interview with Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT that if Ukraine requests the deployment of troops from certain Western countries, including Lithuania, Vilnius will consult with its allies on the matter, writes Ukrainska Pravda.
Budrys said that if such a situation were to arise, Lithuania would consult with its allies, partners and Ukraine to determine how it would proceed.

The two North Korean soldiers captured by Ukraine did not express their desire to seek asylum in South Korea, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) spy agency in Seoul said on Monday, according to the Kyiv Post.
Of the two DPRK soldiers captured by Kiev, one previously expressed a desire to return to North Korea, while the other wanted to stay in Ukraine, according to earlier interviews with the soldiers conducted in Korean and released by the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.
Germany supplies Ukraine with 155 mm shells and combat drones
The German government updated its list of military aid to Ukraine on Tuesday, January 14, confirming the delivery of thousands of artillery shells and drones, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
Since late December, Germany has provided Ukraine with 20 mine-resistant and ambush-protected vehicles, 14,000 155mm artillery shells, 19,000 122mm shells and ammunition for Leopard 1 tanks.
The list also announces future deliveries of 5 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 9 RCT-30 Boxer wheeled infantry fighting vehicles, 277 mine-resistant and ambush-protected vehicles, and 18 RCH 155 self-propelled artillery systems.
Bloomberg: EU considers banning Russian LNG and aluminum
The EU is considering a phased ban on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) and new restrictions on Russian aluminum as part of its next round of sanctions, Bloomberg reports.
The EU has started drafting the 16th package of sanctions against Russia, with the package of measures expected to be approved on February 24, the third anniversary of the total war.
The phase-out of Russian LNG could be enacted as a sanction or as part of a roadmap presented by the European Commission next month, people familiar with the discussions told Bloomberg. Restrictions on aluminum would be gradual, with a time frame to be determined.
Russia launches a massive missile attack on Ukraine
On the morning of January 15, an air raid warning was issued across Ukraine due to the threat of missile attacks, reports Ukrainska Pravda.
Kh-101 missiles were launched from Tu-95MS bombers.
In addition, Kalibr missiles entered Ukraine through Kherson Oblast, launched from the Black Sea. Russia also attacked with Kinzhal missiles and ballistic weapons.
