Scammers present seemingly genuine offers using real information about current promotions. After the victim accepts, they are asked for personal and bank details.
After gaining access to the account, criminals place multiple orders, choosing products other than those originally agreed upon. Phones are delivered to the victim to make everything seem real. They later claim an error and ask for the products to be returned to a fake address.
The victim loses both the phone and control of the contract.
The UK’s National Fraud Office reported losses of over £86,000 at the start of 2020 due to this scheme.
