I’ve been following the news in the field of generative and language neural networks for several years – it is a hot topic throughout the industry, and now almost all technology companies are focused on it.
So, the brightest news of 2024 in this area was not ChatGPT and everything connected with it. This was the public release of the Chinese neural network DeepSeek V3. This ChatGPT’s most serious competitor to date. It works great in Russian, if that’s the case.
A few more facts add piquancy. Firstly, anyone can download the entire neural network and install it directly on their computer. True, the requirements for such a computer will be prohibitive; with a 99% probability you do not have suitable hardware.
Secondly, DeepSeek is available from Russia without any restrictions. And now (thirdly) you can download the client of this neural network directly to iPhone and Android from yesterday: free, unlimited, and also from the Russian App Store.
What is DeepSeek and where did it come from?
DeepSeek V3 is the largest and most powerful publicly available neural network in the world after ChatGPT. At the end of 2024 it released a group of Chinese developers in record time, with record low technical and monetary costs. At the same time, they solved dozens of complex problems in this area and published a lot of scientific research on AI. It is obvious that behind this project there are geniuses no weaker than those who work at OpenAI.
In the field of LLM neural networks, some are now delighted with the progress of the DeepSeek team and hope for its success, while others (especially among fans of ChatGPT and OpenAI) are openly nervous, looking for a catch and danger. After all, this neural network is from Chinawhich means… well, you understand, everything is as usual. It even goes so far as to publish outright fakes, such as the story that this neuron does not answer “sensitive” questions about the history of China.
DeepSeek V3 has every chance to gradually undermine ChatGPT’s position in the world, since unlike the latter, you can deploy the Chinese “analogue” on your own computer, albeit an extremely powerful one, and not share anything with the creators at all. And commercial use of the new neural network via the Internet costs almost 100 times cheaper per “token” than ChatGPT 4o.
While some argue, and others with trembling hands connect their API to save on requests compared to ChatGPT, on January 13, DeepSeek V3 became officially available on iPhone and Android.
The application is free, using neuron also freeRussian language works fine. Let’s go.
How to Install DeepSeek on iPhone
1. Download application from the App Store. There are also for AndroidBy the way.
2. Let’s register. You can do it by mail or by Apple ID (if you are worried about your personal data, you can log in by replacing your real email in iCloud). You can’t use the phone, and why?
3. We use it without restrictions.
I tested the program on several Russian-language queries and stayed extremely pleased. Objectively, I don’t see any significant differences in the quality and accuracy of the results compared to ChatGPT.
I am sure that for some here ChatGPT will still be better in certain/narrow tasks. But DeepSeek is available without restrictions and works from Russia without any foreign IP addresses. And that’s great. So install it and enjoy it for your health.
P.S. The neural network is already rising in the Russian App Store – we won’t be surprised if it soon takes a place in the top ten.
