BYD, the Chinese electric mobility giant, continues to gain ground both in its home market and in Europe: it has sold so many electric cars and plug-in hybrids in 2024, that it could soon become the fifth largest manufacturer in the world.
Their new proposal for our market is the long-awaited ATTO 2, a small 100% electric B-SUV with 177 HP and 312 km of autonomy which is the ‘little brother’ of the BYD ATTO 3, is especially designed for the city and wants to make it difficult for many of its rivals with superior technology and a competitive price.
Features, engine and battery of the BYD ATTO 2
The BYD ATTO 2, which has just debuted at the Brussels Motor Show, is only the first of the six new developments that the Chinese brand has prepared for 2025, as confirmed a few months ago by its vice president, Stella Li. Upon arrival, scheduled for February, It will be positioned as BYD’s smallest and cheapest model.
Based on an SUV that already exists in China, the Yuan UP, the new BYD ATTO measures 4.31 m long, 1.83 m wide and 1.67 m highdimensions that place it between the BYD Dolphin and the ATTO 3. Its 2.62 m wheelbase maximizes interior space, while the trunk offers a capacity of 400 liters, expandable to 1,340 by folding the rear seats.
In terms of design, the ATTO 2 follows the line of other models of the brand, combining the modern aesthetics of an SUV with distinctive elements such as Full LED headlights, a rear light band inspired by the “Chinese knot” (reminiscent of the number 8 and to the infinity ring of Moebius, symbolizing good luck) and a floating roof that adds dynamism.
Available in four colors (‘Climbing Grey’, ‘Hiking Green’, ‘Skiing White’ and ‘Cosmos Black’), it promises to attract attention both in the city and on the road.
Technology and equipment on board the new BTD ATTO 2
According to BYD, the interior of the ATTO 2 is designed to offer a balance between comfort and functionality. Elements stand out such as a 12.8” inch touch screen that rotates to adapt to the mode of use, an 8.8” digital instrument panel, panoramic roof and a gear selector with a cut diamond design. In addition, it includes a wireless charger, 360-degree camera and several smart storage solutions.
They are e-Platform 3.0 architecture optimizes interior space and improves safety, thanks to Cell to Body (CTB) technology. This integrates as a structural part of the chassis the famous “Blade Battery” battery developed and manufactured by BYD itself with LFP (lithium ferrophosphate) technology, which dispenses with nickel and cobalt.
The ATTO 2 moves thanks to a electric motor with 177 HP and 290 Nm of torque, which allows you to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. Its 45.1 kWh Blade Battery offers a range of 312 km according to the WLTP cycle. BYD has also confirmed that “a version with greater autonomy will arrive later”, ideal for those looking to travel longer distances without worrying about recharging. And it won’t hurt.
The BYD ATTO 2 will face rivals such as the Peugeot e-2008, the MG ZS EV, the Kia EV3 and the Jeep Avenger, all of them well-positioned models in the electric urban SUV segment. However, the ATTO 2 is expected to stand out for its starting price, which is expected to be between 25,000 and 30,000 euros, placing it below many of its competitors.
In the absence of confirmation from the brand, this would make it a very attractive option for consumers looking for an affordable electric car without giving up correct equipment.
