DSV men clearly miss the podium in Ruhpolding

The German biathletes still have to wait for their third podium finish of the season. In the individual over 20 kilometers, Justus Strelow made it to eleventh position as the best DSV athlete at the start of the home World Cup in Ruhpolding. The 27-year-old only missed once, but couldn’t keep up on the track. Johannes Kühn finished the longest biathlon race in 17th place after two mistakes.

Vebjörn Sörum secured victory. The error-free Norwegian relegated the French Emilien Claude (+ 52.1 seconds) and Andrejs Rastorgujevs (1/+ 56.8 seconds) from Latvia, who also had no misses, to the other podium places.

The other DSV ski hunters Philipp Nawrath (3 errors), Roman Rees (3), Danilo Riethmüller (7) and David Zobel (2) had nothing to do with the outcome of the race.

Preuß wants to defend the yellow jersey

The World Cup also begins for the women on Thursday (2:10 p.m./ARD and Eurosport) with overall World Cup leader Franziska Preuß. The 30-year-old will keep the yellow jersey in her home town even after the 15-kilometer individual because she has a comfortable lead of 116 points over Frenchwoman Lou Jeanmonnot.

Preuß wants to improve after her series of six podium finishes in a row was broken in Oberhof last week. “You just want to be particularly good in front of the home crowd,” said Preuß: “I was really excited before the relay in Oberhof, too, because you can hardly eat the food.”
