Fulfilled hopes for bank earnings pushed the markets strongly into the green

U.S. stock indexes rose sharply on Wednesday as high hopes for bank earnings paid off and a key consumer inflation update also showed key prices rose less than expected in December.

The S&P 500 rose 1.8 percent, the Nasdaq Composite rose as much as 2.5 percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 1.7 percent.
