In 2025, many changes are planned on the highways. We take stock in our article below!
The new year brings its share of changes, in all areas. Thus, this will also concern motorway users in France, who will notably have to face an increase in toll rates planned from February 1, 2025. Good news, however: this increase will be less marked than those of the last two years, but it will is not all. Thus, we offer you a brief overview of the main developments and current projects on the highway network in the territory during the coming months of 2025!
More expensive highways
First of all, you should know that toll prices will increase on average by +0.92% from next month. This figure is significantly lower than that of 2024 (+3%) and especially 2023 (+4.75%). However, this increase varies depending on the sections and networks. Here are the key figures of the main managers:
- APRR (A5, A6, A19, A31, A36, A39, A40, A77, etc.): +1.08 %
- Area (A41, A43, A48, etc.) : +1,1 %
- Sanef (A1, A4, A26, etc.) : +0,85 %
- SAPN (A13, A14, A29, etc.) : +1,14 %
- Vinci Autoroutes/ASF-Cofiroute-Escota (A7, A8, A9, A10, A51, A61, A62, A64, A71, A81, A83, A89, etc.): +0.77%
These variations take into account rounding and the specificities of each network. Motorists will therefore need to be attentive to the modifications applied to their regular journeys. And unfortunately, this may still be quite painful for those who need to regularly take the country’s highways. But that’s not all, because other major developments are also expected in 2025 on the network. Find out more below!
Work, but not only
Among the controversial highway projects, the A69which must connect Toulouse to Castres over a distance of 53 kilometers, still raises questions. While its delivery was initially scheduled for the end of 2025, administrative justice called its legality into question last November. A final decision is expected in the coming months, but in the meantime, work continues. That’s not all, because the modernization of highways is progressing with the installation of “free flow” systemswhich allow you to travel without toll barriers. In the Alps, Area plans to equip the A43, A48 and A49 motorways by the end of 2025 or beginning of 2026.
The ATMB is also working on a similar transition on the A40 between Mâcon and Bellegarde, with completion planned for 2027. On the A13, where free flow was introduced in December 2024, the removal of the old barriers is still underway . Finally, some highway widening projects are coming to an end. The A57, east of Toulon, now has a third lane for 7 km. Likewise, the A7/A54 junction at Salon-de-Provence, often congested, will see its expansion work completed by next summer.
Furthermore, several new widening projects are underway, such as on the A10, at the level of the 2×3 lane transition between Veigné and Poitiers (100 kilometers) as well as the A13. So, prepare yourself to discover many changes on the highways of France over the coming months, whether positive or not!
