The coming days promise to be exciting for space flight enthusiasts. Ahead of us is the maiden flight of the Blue Origin New Glenn rocket, which is scheduled for this Friday, as well as the seventh test flight of SpaceX’s Starship.
Update 15/01/2025:
Blue Origin will make another attempt to launch the New Glenn rocket tomorrow, January 16. The starting window starts again at 7:00 a.m. Polish time and will last 3 hours. Let’s hope it will work this time :-). The broadcast will be available on NG-1 mission websiteand as soon as it appears on YouTube, we will add an appropriate link.
Update 12/01/2025:
Blue Origin is still waiting for better weather where New Glenn is scheduled to land on the barge. The start was postponed again, this time to January 13, again at 7:00 a.m. Polish time. SpaceX has also postponed the date of the 7th Starship flight, which is currently scheduled for January 15 (Wednesday) at 23:00 Polish time.
Update 10/01/2025:
Due to large waves in the area where the first stage of the New Glenn rocket is to land, the launch was postponed to Sunday, January 12, 2025. The starting window starts at 7:00 a.m. Polish time and will last 3 hours. Unfortunately, it will still be dark in Florida at that time, so it will be difficult to fully appreciate this launch, but let’s hope that Blue Origin’s streaming will not disappoint us. SpaceX has set the launch date for the seventh test flight of Starship on January 13. For a change, this flight will depart as scheduled at 11 p.m. Polish time.
2025 promises to be a great year in space for the entire industry related to orbital flights. This Friday, the Blue Origin New Glenn heavy transport rocket should debut, which may change the balance of power on the market and be the first serious competition for SpaceX. However, Elon Musk’s company does not intend to be left behind, and Starship will undertake more and more advanced tasks.
New Glenn ready to fly
After Jeff Bezos stopped being the head of Amazon, he focused more on his second company, Blue Origin. The company under David Limp’s leadership has made enormous progress in recent months and even if it did not make it to the start in 2024, it can be satisfied with itself. The first flight of the New Glenn rocket is currently scheduled for January 10 at 7:00 Polish time. The starting window will last 3 hours, but honestly I would be surprised if I managed to start the first time. Blue Origin had at least several attempts to fire its rocket engines for the first time in late December, and it may be similar this time.
However, this does not change the fact that the first attempt will be made in less than 2 days. Moreover, Blue Origin intends to try to land the first stage of its rocket on a barge in the Atlantic Ocean, which will certainly be very spectacular. The plan is therefore ambitious, and considering the way the company works, the chances of success seem quite high. However, space flights are not easy, so the first mission of the new rocket will be very important in many respects. It will certainly allow you to better understand how the new rocket works and what its capabilities are. The first payload is just the Blue Ring test platform that will be used to launch satellites into orbit. It has its own propulsion and a number of communication antennas that make it a small spacecraft.
As soon as a link to the video report from the first New Glenn mission appears, we will certainly inform you about it. As was the case with Starship’s seventh flight, which was originally scheduled for Saturday. For some reasons, however, the start was postponed by a few days and will take place at the beginning of next week. During this mission, SpaceX wants to, among other things, launch a payload from the Starship’s cargo bay into orbit, which will be Starlink V3 satellite simulators. The next few days may therefore redefine what we can expect from the space industry in 2025. We keep our fingers crossed for the success of both missions.
