According to Mark Zuckerberg, it is necessary to send a few people so that the company can hire new talents.
To put it mildly, Meta’s year got off to a busy start, as Mark Zuckerberg seems to have finally let go of what people think of him and started a multi-front war. You don’t have to be a special expert to recognize that the company manager is trying to score good points with impressive measures for Donald Trump, who will soon take office.
He started the year by announcing the end of fact-checking on Facebook and Instagram, then he started to message the European Union, and then he teased the competition’s mustache a bit. Users have already stated that they do not necessarily agree with the new direction. A recent report has now revealed that Meta’s employees will soon not have a clouded smile when they think of Zuckerberg.
A Bloomberga memo intended for internal use by the founder of Facebook reached us, in which he writes that in the first half of 2025 they plan to get rid of 5 percent of Meta’s employees. For a company of this size, this means roughly 3,600 employees, who, according to the document, are “underperforming employees”.
“I decided to raise the bar in performance management. Usually, we get rid of people who don’t meet the expectations we set within a year, but in this cycle you can expect a more extensive, performance-based downsizing.”
Zuckerberg also added that employees who perform poorly, but management sees potential in them, can stay with the company. Those affected by the downsizing will be notified by February 10, but according to the company manager, “generous severance pay” is being prepared for them.
The memo also reveals that, according to the plans, “outstanding talents” will be sought to replace those who have been laid off, with whom the company can realize its hopes for artificial intelligence and augmented reality, to “build the world’s most important technologies.”
