Garmin announces that the application dedicated to recording an EKG (ECG) is now also available in Australia and in the countries of the European Union, implicitly in Romania, through compatible Garmin watches. These include Venu 3 series, fēnix 8 and others.
The app allows users to record their heart rate and look for signs of atrial fibrillation as often as they need. A 30-second EKG can be recorded with the app, and the results can be viewed immediately on the watch or in the Garmin Connect app on the paired smartphone.
“The EKG (ECG) app is the first Garmin smartwatch feature to be classified as a medical device in Australia and the European Union, and we’re excited to offer this revolutionary tool to our users as another way to stay on top of their health. In the early stages of atrial fibrillation, symptoms are rare, making it difficult to detect in a clinical setting. With the EKG (ECG) app, customers can take a recording whenever they want and optionally create a report of their results to discuss with their doctor later.” — Alexandru Moise, Sales & Marketing Garmin RO, HU, BG, MD.
The app uses sensors to record the electrical signals that control the heartbeat
When a user performs an EKG (ECG), the app uses sensors on a compatible Garmin smartwatch to record the electrical signals that control the heartbeat. The app then analyzes that recording to detect signs of AFib (arterial fibrillation). Additionally, users have the option to sync their EKG (ECG) app results with Garmin Connect. Through the Garmin Connect app, customers can view their results history and create reports that can be shared with a healthcare provider.
After recently obtaining regulatory approvals in the European Union and Australia, the EKG (ECG) app is now available to customers in these regions and requires the latest version of the Garmin Connect app and software for each smartwatch before use. Garmin plans to continue to expand its portfolio of products that support the EKG app and launch it in new regions, subject to necessary local approvals.
