This Sunday, January 19, Antonella d’Ascenzi presents at El Progrés (12.00pm) Pillara song to motherhood and humanity’s ability to overcome adversity. A montage of dance, puppets and video mapping based on personal experiences of this creator of Italian dance and visual theater based in Catalonia since 2010. The show is included in the cycle ‘Five Dance‘ and is part of the programming of The Martorell Children’s and Youth Show Network and tickets can be purchased at entrades.martorell.cat.
Pillar it is intended for a family audience and explains the world “as if it were made of threads, and how these help to create a community, how they unite us”, explains its author. Talking about “motherhood, because when I created it, in 2020, I had recently lived this experience, and as a creator it was very important for me to explain it”, highlights d’Ascenzi.

Pillar it is, therefore, “the reflection of how we can be mothers and fathers, maintaining hope and confidence that everything will be fine”. But he also talks about the environment, the community, also from a personal perspective: “I’m Italian and for a year and a half, because of the pandemic, I couldn’t go see my family there. I was far away, but the community of mothers, fathers and friends I’ve made in Catalonia helped me a lot in such a complicated moment”. He concludes that we are very resilient and that “the community is stronger than we think”.

The assembly required “two years of research and creation. I like to cook it slowly.” A process that she did not do alone. It has included, for example, “Toni Mira in the choreographies and external look, Guillem Muñoz in the audiovisual, Cristina Robledillo in the costumes and Elena Piscitilli in the light assembly”.
D’Ascenzi started at a very young age in the world of theater in Rome, where he created the company Residui in 1999. He studied Audiovisual Communication and trained artistically in disciplines such as dance and composition, contemporary dance and theater in various aspects -conventional, of the senses and physical-.
He completed his studies in Madrid and in 2010 he settled in Catalonia, where he founded the company that bears his name. There he does “shows for both family and adult audiences, and I rely on a very strong visual dramaturgy, which combines dance, physical theatre, puppets and video mapping, which is my way of telling stories”.
