Outgoing US President Joseph Biden summarized the results of his mandate in a fifteen-minute address to the nation, and at no point did he mention Russia or relations between Washington and Moscow.

Biden warned of the growing dangers of “oligarchy” and unlimited power in the hands of the richest individuals in America and emphasized that extreme wealth and influence can threaten democracy and the rights of citizens, AP reported.

– Today, an oligarchy is taking shape in America – extremely rich, powerful and influential – which really threatens our entire democracy, our basic rights and freedoms – said Biden.

The BBC estimates that Biden’s “attack” on the “ultra-rich technological-industrial complex” was a veiled reference to major actors from Silicon Valley such as Elon Musk, the richest man in the world who is close to Trump and who provided huge financial support to his campaign. .

Other tech tycoons such as Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg have made efforts to improve relations with Trump ahead of his return to the White House.

Speaking about the results of his work, Biden stated that during the mandate of his administration, “significant legislative progress was achieved, including the passage of an important law on gun safety and climate change.”

Biden also pointed to the dangers posed by the development of artificial intelligence without adequate regulations and criticized social networks for abolishing fact-checking.

– Americans are buried under an avalanche of disinformation, which allows abuse of power. Social networks are giving up on fact-checking. The truth has been suffocated by lies told for power and profit – said Biden.

He emphasized the importance of preserving America’s institutional values, including the independence of the judiciary, freedom of the media and limiting the power of the president.

Biden has called for a change to the US Constitution to end presidential immunity for acts committed during his term.
