Dacia is the most popular car brand among private individuals

The slice of the automotive sales pie that Dacia manages to appropriate every year has never been as large as in 2024. At least, in Europe. According to Dacia, it had a market share of 4.5 percent on the European new passenger car market. Last year that share was 0.1 percentage point lower. Dacia sold a total of 676,340 cars last year, 2.7 percent more than a year earlier. Another stunning figure: since 2004 – the year in which Dacia was pumped with new zest for life by Renault – Dacia has now sold more than 9 million cars. Hefty. Dacia does not appear to be the brand with the most new cars registered in Europe in 2024. Dacia is the most purchased car brand among private individuals. According to the brand, it is the fourth year in a row that Dacia is the most popular brand among private individuals. According to the Romanians, 8.2 percent of all cars actually purchased by private individuals were Dacias. Slightly less positive: that share was still 0.1 percentage points higher in 2023. Sandero and Duster are sales stunners. Of the 676,340 cars that Dacia sold in 2024, 309,392 were Sandero. So about 46 percent. Among European private individuals, the Sandero was the most often actually purchased and therefore not leased model. Fun fact: the Sandero has been that way since 2017! In terms of sales, the Sandero did almost 15 percent better last year than in 2023. The Duster – generations two and three together – sold 215,024 units in 2024. That was 7.3 percent more than a year earlier. After the Sandero, the Duster can call itself the most popular new car among European private individuals. Since 2010, Dacia has sold more than 2.5 million Dusters. Dacia does not hide the fact that sales of the Spring have collapsed. No less than 63 percent fewer copies of the Spring were sold in 2024 than in 2023. A total of 22,884 copies were sold. According to Dacia, this is mainly because there are fewer and fewer tax benefits for EVs in many countries. The Jogger provides another small plus. 96,440 units of the spacious station wagon were sold last year, 2.4 percent more than in 2023. 2025 will of course be the year in which the brand new Bigster can prove itself at Dacia. Dacia also promises that more hybrid cars will become available. We expect, among other things, that the Sandero will have a new hybrid power plant. That is probably the updated hybrid powertrain that debuted in the Bigster.
