The Minister of Finance wants to limit cash transactions. Effects on the population

The UDMR Minister of Finance emphasizes the need to eliminate cash payments in certain areas, as well as the constitutional and logistical challenges associated with this process.

“I’ve lived in the country for 49 years and I know, maybe, in the country POS is used in 90% of stores. Whoever wants to pay by phone has absolutely no problem.

Certainly, eliminating cash transactions helps a lot, and there are a few areas where we should go with priority. We have started reviews, including at the treasury, where cash is still used – we will have to eliminate cash transactions from the treasury. It is a staff reduction, an activity streamlining and a modernization. We will do this in 2025.

We will have to reduce cash transactions in the real economy as well. There, the ceilings were discussed. There are also some constitutional aspects that do not allow us to completely eliminate cash transactions, but we must go as far as possible on this road and reduce in areas of major risk.

I’m not telling you if we’re going to hit the ceilings, but we’re definitely going to come up with areas where we’re going to greatly reduce these transactions. I am not telling you now because it is a few days analysis. In the near future I will certainly come up with these measures and proposals,” Tanczos Barna told Digi24.
