Softbank founder Masayoshi Son told Wired about his meeting with Steve Jobs in the summer of 2005, where he proposed the idea of creating the iPhone.
The dream flew to California with a drawing that depicted an iPod with a large screen and the ability to make calls. He showed it to Jobs, but the Apple founder was not impressed.
Masa, don’t give me your shitty drawing. I have my own.

Jobs declined to reveal any details, but Son noticed a flicker of a smile on his face. The billionaire later met with Jobs at his home, where Jobs agreed to give Softbank exclusive rights to sell the iPhone in Japan.
Well, Masa, you’re crazy. We didn’t talk to anyone, but you came to me first. I’ll give it to you.

This promise was enough for the billionaire. In 2006, Softbank bought the Japanese operator Vodafone Japan for $17 billion, and in 2008 received the exclusive right to sell the iPhone 3G in Japan.
