The caramel manufacturer Nigay announces the construction of its third factory – the second in Hauts-de-France – in Saint-Quentin (Aisne). With its historic site in Feurs (Loire), and after its arrival in 2019 on the Nesle site, in the Somme, this investment of more than 30 million euros should make it possible to meet the growing demand of its customers. And to establish the company among world leaders in the production of caramels intended for artisans and agri-food industries.
Construction of this new industrial site will take place in the second half of 2025. Its commissioning will take place from 2027, with the “creation of around thirty jobs at start-up, and the plan to strengthen the workforce in the years that follow», underlines the management of the company, which generates 67% of its turnover from exports.
An anchor in the cradle of the sugar industry
The former starch factory, created in 1855, specialized in aromatic and coloring caramels after the takeover of the Mombron et Bon company in 1973. The company, which delivers more than 450 references worldwide, is thus strengthening its presence in Hauts-de-France, in the heart of the beet processing basin into beet syrup and close to the future Seine-Nord Europe Canal.
«The new industrial tool of Saint-Quentin will combine price competitiveness and CSR policy, being at the heart of the production of its main raw materials and the various river, maritime, rail and motorway transport networks to optimize its carbon footprint.», Adds the management of this family group, currently headed by Henri and Yves Nigay alongside the sixth generation, Agnès, Vincent and Thomas Nigay.
The group has crossed the 100 million euros turnover mark for several years. It now has more than 300 employees, the vast majority based in Feurs. 2025 will therefore mark the 170th anniversary of the company and the arrival of this new production workshop in Hauts-de-France.
