French President Emmanuel Macron spoke today with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to a press release from the French presidency.
The presidency said Macron reminded Netanyahu that France is fully committed to doing “everything to avoid a new escalation in the region by sending messages to all parties involved in the conflict,” Reuters reported.
The agency adds that Paris is trying to prevent a wider escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
In a rocket attack by Hezbollah yesterday, 12 children were killed on the soccer field in the Druze-populated village of Majdal Shams on the Golan Heights.
Israel carried out airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon overnight, after accusing the organization of the attack.
Hezbollah denied responsibility for the attack, and Israel rejected those denials and announced that it would respond “strongly”.
