The pioneering film director David Lynch has died aged 78, his family says on Facebook.

“It is with deep sadness that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and artist, David Lynch,” the statement read.
“There is a great void in the world now that he is no longer with us.”

Among other things, Lynch has made the TV series “Twin Peaks” and the films “The Elephant Man”, Blue Velvet and “Mulholland Drive”.
He has been nominated for several Oscars and in 2019 was awarded an Honorary Oscar for his life’s work. He was awarded the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1990 for “Wild at heart”.
Was sick with pulmonary emphysema
Last year, Lynch announced that he suffered from emphysema after several years of smoking. In the disease, the lung tissue is damaged, which means that it becomes more difficult to breathe. It is common for pulmonary emphysema to be part of the lung disease carbon.
Lynch was born in the state of Montana in the USA in 1946.
