After a long wait, Nintendo has finally introduced us to its Switch 2 gaming console through a short trailer on YouTube. We do know some information, but we will have to wait a little longer for the most important things, such as hardware specifications.
Nintendo Switch 2: What’s New?
After a number of speculations that have surfaced recently, we have a clearer idea of what the new Nintendo will look like. Most of the information has been confirmed – for example, that the new handheld will offer a larger display and Joy-Cons with a magnetic attachment.
New color variants were also officially introduced. Orange and blue are added to the traditional black. On the other hand, the details regarding performance and battery life remain secret for the time being – we will probably only see them in a few months.
Backwards compatibility
We don’t know the details about the Switch 2’s hardware yet, but at least we learned how it will be with the compatibility of games from the original console. It is confirmed that most physical and digital games will run on the new Nintendo, with a higher and more stable frame rate. However, whether we will also see graphical improvements to the games remains a question.
At the same time, Nintendo has warned that some titles may not be fully supported or may not launch at all on the new console. However, the specific list of these games has not been published. But the good news is that most major AAA titles will run smoothly on the Switch 2.
More information in a few months
We won’t get a complete presentation until the Nintendo Direct event, which will take place on April 2. We will learn about its hardware specifications, availability in global markets and the final price, which according to speculation is expected to be slightly higher than the previous generation. But it is already clear that the Nintendo Switch 2 will go on sale this year.
