Apple Watch saved Tim Cook’s father’s life –

Recently, the first person at Apple talked about this, among other things.

In December 2024, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, visited the UK to show around III. King Charles at the Apple Battersea building. During his visit, Cook also gave an interview on the gastronomy podcast Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, in which he spoke unusually candidly not only about Apple, but also about his own life.

One of the interesting moments of the interview was related to the Apple Watch. The hosts asked if he had ever experienced a medical alert on his own device. Cook shared that while he didn’t receive such a notification himself, his father’s life was once saved by the Apple Watch.

“Not yet, but my father, when he was still alive, once fell at home and lived alone”

Cook began.

“The watch then notifies family members and emergency services because the fall sensor detects the fall.”

Cook said the watch alerted emergency services, who arrived at the scene and broke down the door as her father was unresponsive.

“It was a good thing because they found him unconscious.”

Despite the incident, his father did not praise the life-saving role of the clock, but instead complained about the door:

“He was more upset about the door: ‘My door was broken in!'”

Cook recalled with a laugh. On the culinary side of the interview, Cook revealed how the Cafe Macs restaurant within Apple Park has a diverse selection that reflects the needs of the international community working there.

“There is a lot of Chinese and Indian food, a sushi bar, hamburgers, pizzas, salads and soups – practically everything is available”

he said. Cook came with a special gift for the presenters: jam made from fruits grown in Apple Park.

In return, Cook received chocolate as a gift, which he accepted with great joy. Although he revealed that he prefers dark chocolate to milk chocolate, he diplomatically avoided answering whether American or English chocolate is better. Speaking about his culinary interests, he said that he likes to eat at Ethel’s Fancy, a restaurant in Palo Alto that serves a variety of international dishes. He emphasized that one of his favorites is the octopus made there.

At the end of the interview, Cook also talked about the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic and Apple’s hybrid work schedule. According to him, he himself works in the office four days a week, and on Fridays he works from home.

“Covid has changed a lot”

he noted.

“It taught us that some work can be done online, but also how valuable it is when we’re all together.”
