State Duma deputy and member of the Budget and Taxes Committee Nikita Chaplin explained in a conversation with RT that on January 1, 2025, new rules on standard deductions for children will come into force, which will introduce significant changes to the size and procedure for providing tax deductions for parents.
As the parliamentarian explained, the changes will affect the increase in the amount of the deduction, simplification of the application procedure, and the procedure for paying the difference when providing deductions in a larger amount.
“The deduction for the second child will increase from 1.4 thousand to 2.8 thousand rubles, which will lead to monthly tax savings. The deduction for the third and subsequent children will increase from 3 thousand to 6 thousand rubles, providing savings of 780 rubles per month. The amount of the deduction for the first child will remain unchanged – 1.4 thousand rubles,” the deputy noted.
Also, according to him, the deduction for a child with a disability will increase by 6 thousand rubles for guardians.
“Deductions will be available for incomes up to 450 thousand rubles per year from 2025, instead of the current 350 thousand rubles. In addition, from 2025, it will not be necessary to file an application for a deduction if the employer has all the necessary information about the children. If the deduction was not received through the employer, it will be possible to return part of the personal income tax for the last three years through the Federal Tax Service using a declaration,” the RT source emphasized.
As an example, Chaplin suggested considering a family with three children, where the father’s salary is 70 thousand rubles, and the mother’s salary is 40 thousand rubles.
“The monthly deduction for each parent from 2025 will be 10.2 thousand rubles together, which will bring each parent a tax savings of 1,326 rubles. Thus, the father will receive a deduction from January to June, and the mother – from January to November. The total savings for the family for the year will be 22,542 rubles, which is 12,740 rubles more than the current rules. These changes will significantly improve financial support for families with children and simplify the procedure for obtaining a tax deduction,” Chaplin concluded.
Earlier, the director of the Institute for the Study of Modern Politics, Anton Orlov, proposed doubling the amount of tax deductions for the purchase of housing for large families.
