An electric flame for the Paris Olympics, Duralex saved, new big contract for Alstom… The seven good news

1 – A flame of water and light for the Paris Olympics

The “flame” of the Paris Olympic Games lit on July 26 at 11:24 p.m. by Teddy Riner and Marie-José Pérec is not really one: there is no fuel in its composition but… water and light. It was EDF that designed this electric flame imagined by the French designer Mathieu Lehanneur. Three years of work were necessary to bring this slightly crazy idea to life. “The flame ring, which is nearly 7 meters in diameter, integrates 40 LED projectors to illuminate the cloud created by 200 high-pressure misting nozzles,” says the energy company, a partner of the Olympic Games. This giant flame ring topped with a monumental balloon therefore consumes only electricity and water: 2 to 3 m3 per hour. And it will rise 60 meters from the ground every night from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m….

2 – Duralex prevents closing

It is a relief for the 227 employees of Duralex, the glass manufacturer. The commercial court of Orléans (Loiret) ruled on July 26 in favor of the project to take over the Duralex glassworks by a SCOP supported by a majority of its employees and the site’s management. This is a new beginning for this emblematic company of made in France: its 228 jobs are preserved. But the company’s revival is going to be a real challenge.

3 – Alstom wins largest order in its history in Germany

Alstom’s fine summer continues, with a good harvest of contracts. On July 24, it won a €4 billion contract for the construction of 90 trains for the Cologne suburban rail network. It will maintain them for 34 years.

6 – Biostructure invests 6.2 million euros in a hemp concrete plant in Châtel-Guyon

The company Biostructure will invest 6.2 million euros in the construction of its production unit for hemp concrete panels and wood frames, located in the commune of Châtel-Guyon (Puy-de-Dôme) in the Eco-Parc des Volcans.

7 – DHL invests 8 million euros in a new agency in Beaune

To better serve its customers in the region’s wine, textile and banking sectors, DHL has opened a new, modern and automated site in Beaune (Côte-d’Or). An investment of 8 million euros.
