Nicolas Maduro has won the presidential election in Venezuela. Elvis Amoroso, the President of the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE), announced that 80% of the ballot boxes have been opened and that Maduro, the candidate of the Grand Patriotic Pole (Gran Polo Patriotico), won the presidential election in which 10 candidates competed.
According to preliminary results, Maduro secured his third term as president with 51.20 percent of the vote.
Edmundo Gonzalez, candidate of the opposition coalition United Democratic Platform (PUD), comes in second with 44.20 percent.
CNE President Amoroso announced that the results details for the candidates will be published in tabular form on the CNE website in the coming hours.
It was reported that the participation rate in the ballot box was 59 percent.
The candidate who emerges victorious from the election will be sworn in as the country’s new president on January 10, 2025.
