Kickstarter is where you’ll find the gadgets of the future. The tiny 5G smartphone Jelly Max is a hit right now, but there are more interesting Kickstarter projects that deserve your attention.
Tiny 5G smartphone Jelly Max and more cool Kickstarter projects
On Kickstarter, start-ups and larger companies ask for money so they can launch a new gadget. Think of it as a pre-order, which only works if enough people are interested. We pick out the most interesting current projects (July 2024).
Jelly Max
- Status: Kickstarter achieved.
- End date: August 15

There are very few small smartphones made these days, and that’s a shame. So it’s no wonder that the Jelly Max, the smallest Android device with 5G, is such a success. The makers promote the device as a smartphone that you can finally use with one hand again.
The Jelly Max has a mere 5-inch display, with a 4000mAh battery that can charge quickly. Under the hood is also a Dimensity 7300 chip, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. On the back you will find a 100 megapixel main camera and also a 3.4x telephoto lens.
The Kickstarter had a target of over 90,000 euros, but over 290,000 euros has already been raised and there are still dozens of days to go. The Jelly Max is not the first successful Kickstarter project of the makers. Small smartphones have also been introduced before, but the Jelly Max is the first to no longer have enormous screen edges.
SwitchLens
- Status: Kickstarter achieved.
- End date: July 26.
- Link.
Although smartphone cameras are getting better and better, it is apparently not enough. SwitchLens offers lenses that really turn your smartphone into a professional camera. What is striking is that you do not place the lenses in front of your current camera lens, but they connect to your smartphone via wifi.
That there is a demand for these types of lenses is evident from the number of people who have already pledged. The makers were looking for just under 10,000 euros, but more than 600,000 euros worth of lenses have already been ordered.
Foli: Smartphone Expansion
- Status: Kickstarter achieved.
- End date: August 5th.
- Link.
Foli wants to be an extension of your smartphone. With a battery of 15000mAh, this device is first and foremost a power bank with which you can charge your device. In addition, there is a touchscreen with which you can open all kinds of apps.
You can make phone calls via the built-in speaker, or you can place the device to record a meeting. The Foli can even be used as a Bluetooth speaker. And that for only about 100 euros.
Nova Smart Ring
- Status: Kickstarter achieved.
- Deadline: 14 September.
- Link.
Samsung’s Galaxy Ring and Oura Ring have competition from the Nova Smart Ring. This wearable has a secret weapon in the form of GPT-4o. What the ring can do better than the competition is not entirely clear.
Connect Pro
- Status: Kickstarter achieved.
- End date: August 24th.
- Link.
Have you ever wondered why your USB cable doesn’t have a display? We have good news! The magnetic Connect Pro offers a display that shows how much energy is being used to charge your device. With this cable, you will never need another cable again, because the Connect Pro can handle USB-C, micro-USB and even Apple Lightning.
Kalos K2
- Status: Kickstarter achieved.
- End date: August 21st.
- Link.
The Kalos K2 is a very small device to use Android Auto wirelessly, for all known Android Auto options such as navigation, calling and starting music. Not so safe is the possibility to also watch videos via streaming services such as Disney Plus and YouTube while driving.
Solar Energy S
- Status: Kickstarter achieved.
- End date: August 12th.
- Link.
Power banks with solar panels are often quite bulky. The Solar Energy S solves this by letting you roll out a solar panel. With the sun, you charge the 40,000mAh battery. The LED screen then shows you how full the battery is and with one push of a button you roll up the solar panel again.
