The story of a young couple who got into a minor accident on the road and received 17 million won in hospital bills and settlement money has been reported. Recently, the YouTube channel ‘Han Moon-chul TV’ released a video of the accident that occurred at an intersection in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, Seoul in December of last year.

Driver A, who reported the video, explained that at the time, he was trying to make a left turn at the intersection when the signal turned yellow. At that moment, the car in front, which was trying to continue on, suddenly stopped, causing A to crash into the rear. According to A, the accident was minor, with only a slight shaking.

The couple riding in the car in front was hospitalized and received outpatient treatment at a Korean medicine hospital, and received insurance premiums totaling approximately 17 million won for the two, including the settlement amount. When Mr. A asked the insurance company about the name of the hospital and the couple’s length of hospitalization, the insurance company only responded, “We cannot tell you due to personal information protection obligations.”

Attorney Han Moon-chul said, “Does it make sense that a minor accident would cost 17 million won in personal injury damages?” and “This is something that might make it into the Guinness Book of World Records. I think this needs to be investigated as insurance fraud.” He continued, “Insurance companies cannot stay still either,” and emphasized, “Insurance companies can be reported under the Insurance Fraud Prevention Special Act. They cannot just let this slide.”
