Thailand extends the visa-free system to 93 countries
Thailand has expanded its visa-free entry system to 93 countries and territories, according to the BBC. Tourists can stay in the country for up to 60 days under the new scheme that came into force on Monday,
Previously, there were only 57 countries on the list.
Thailand recorded 17.5 million foreign tourists in the first six months of 2024, up 35 percent from the same period last year, according to official data. However, the numbers are nowhere near pre-pandemic levels.
Most of the visitors were from China, Malaysia and India.
Tourism revenue in the same period amounted to 858 billion baht ($23.6 billion), less than a quarter of the government’s target.
