A 25-year-old man died early this morning after accidentally hitting the Ferris wheel installed at the Boombastic festival, which is taking place these days in the town of Llanera (Asturias).
The incident occurred at around 4.30 am, when the young man was hit in the head while the Ferris wheel was in motion. The victim was treated by the medical services, who were unable to prevent his death. The body was taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine, according to information from the Civil Guard collected by Europa Press.
The Government delegate in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, has publicly expressed her condolences to the friends and family of the young man who died in a “tragic accident.”
A “safe” festival with around 60,000 people
The deceased is a 25-year-old man from Madrid who had travelled to Asturias with some friends to spend a few days, according to the Government delegate, Adriana Lastra, in statements to journalists.
Lastra, who has expressed her condolences to the young man’s friends and family, wanted to make it clear that Boombastic “is a safe party, a safe festival.” “All the young people who are currently enjoying the festival can continue to do so without any problem,” she said.
The Boombastic festival has been bringing together around 60,000 people since Thursday and until today at the La Morgal fairgrounds, in the Asturian municipality of Llanera, just over ten kilometres from Oviedo.
In a statement, the organization stressed that this is an event that “complies with all current regulations regarding safety,” as do “its collaborating companies.”
The organisation, which has expressed “its condolences to the family and friends” of the deceased, has pointed out that the young man suffered “an accident due to a blow to the Ferris wheel at the venue while he was using it”, and that “the medical services tried to do everything possible to save his life, but it was impossible”.
The authorities have begun “the relevant investigations with the collaboration of the festival management, which will provide all possible tools to clarify the facts,” the organization added in its statement.
