On Thursday (July 18), 17 firefighters assisted in transporting the 300-kilogram Spaniard to a hospital in Cádiz. The man was finally taken out of the apartment with the help of a crane. Based on the AP report, the portal informs about it novinky.cz.

Help with cranes

49-year-old José María Fernández suffers from elephantiasis, or the so-called elephant disease. He hasn’t gotten out of bed for the past six months.

The firefighters knew what awaited them. First, they borrowed various structures from a company that rents out amusement attractions and stages, thanks to which the extremely heavy man was moved to the balcony.

There he was loaded onto a special stretcher attached to a crane and slowly lowered to the ground.

He begged for help

An ambulance was already waiting for José on the street, which transported him to the hospital.

Fernández’s story went around the world a quarter of a year ago. At that time, he asked for help through the local newspaper.

“I need someone to help me get out of bed and live a normal life. I need to find a doctor who will operate on me. I can’t live like this” said José, who, in addition to an unpleasant illness and being overweight, also suffers from severe depression.
