On Sunday morning, Austrian mountain rescuers began a search operation for a missing 54-year-old Slovenian skier.
On Saturday afternoon, a 54-year-old man from Slovenia went skiing in the area of the Obertauren winter ski center in Visoki Tury in Solnograško. As he did not return on time, his friends informed the police. They said he was an experienced skier who knew the terrain.
Around 40 mountain rescuers started a search operation this morning. They found his car in a parking lot in the Grünwaldkopf area and headed for the snowy hills. A lot of snow has fallen in the area in recent days. With poor visibility, after several hours of searching, he was found with the help of a device for locating buried persons, namely in the area of Seekareck, at an altitude of almost 2000 meters above sea level. The unfortunate tour skier was two meters under the snow. Mountain rescuers told the Krone Zeitung that the 54-year-old was not buried by an avalanche, most likely it was a slip or fall while climbing.
