In the world of electricity, circuit breakers (MCBs) are true “shadow heroes” that ensure the smooth and safe flow of electricity. These devices are key to protecting electrical systems in homes, industrial plants and infrastructure around the world, becoming the cornerstone of modern electrification. On the cusp of its centenary, the ABB circuit breaker continues to stand out as the industry standard in terms of performance, compactness, connectivity and transparency.

Since 1924, when Hugo Štoc patented the first automatic fuse, ABB has continuously improved these devices to meet increasing market demands and environmental standards. Today’s ABB automatic fuses have become synonymous with safety, but also with sustainability, which is especially important in the context of the global energy transition towards net zero carbon emissions.

Technological revolution and sustainability

As the world moves towards zero CO2 emissions, electric circuit protection technologies are becoming crucial for a safe and sustainable transition to renewable energy sources. The original ABB automatic fuse sets high standards that are of crucial importance for the integration of renewable sources into power networks. Their flexible design allows for faster and simpler installation, which is especially important at a time when the industry is facing a shortage of highly skilled labor.

The ABB circuit breaker is designed to respond to short circuits or overloads within 10 milliseconds, which is ten times faster than the blink of an eye. This speed is key to preventing damage and protecting property, while the high temperatures that the fuse can withstand (from 5,000 to 6,000 degrees Celsius) ensure longevity and reliability. Users can easily reset the device, which reduces the need for replacement and allows a faster return to normal operation.

The future of energy efficiency

In response to the increasing need for electrification and the integration of different sources of renewable energy, ABB develops products that must withstand higher electrical loads and supply variations. ABB offers protection for a variety of applications, from solar panels and heat pumps to electric vehicles, including residual current, surge and arc protection.

– ABB’s future-oriented product portfolio is primarily aimed at achieving energy efficiency and transparent, sustainable practices. Also, the focus of our attention is easy installation, which is of inestimable importance in situations where the market is facing a shortage of highly qualified labor – said the commercial director of ABB in Serbia, Aleksandar Ćosić.
