A child’s hand tied body was recovered

The police recovered the body of a six-year-old child named Hamida Khanam with her hands tied with a rope from Dhankhet in Naragati upazila of Narail.

His body was recovered from Pakuria village of Khashial Union of the upazila on Thursday evening.

The deceased is the daughter of Sahanur Sheikh of Pakuria village of Khashial Union of Hamida Upazila.

Family and locals said that Hamida’s mother was suffering from fever since Thursday morning. That day at noon, Hamida took apples from her mother and went to play with her friends near the house. As he did not return home for a long time, his family members started looking for him. At one point in the evening, the locals found Hamida’s dead body in a ditch next to the house. His hands were tied with rope and his body was covered with kachuripana. In this incident, there is a shadow of grief in the fish of the villagers along with the family.

Earlier on Thursday morning, Hamidad’s family found a letter threatening to kill him.

Hamida’s family members said that someone left a note near Hamida’s house last Wednesday night. The chirkut (letter) threatened to kill the victim Sahanur Sheikh and his brother’s children. Hamida’s family said it was those who had threatened to kill her due to past enmity.

In that note it was written ‘If you drive yourself then I will remember, you will lose one of your children or your brother’s daughter. This is my last word.’ At the end of the letter, the names of the deceased Hamida and Shamima were written.

Locals said that if something is lost, damaged or stolen in this area, there is a tradition of feeding broken rice (Khud) to suspects as a means of finding it. Which is called ‘Khud Chalan’ in the local language. There is also a custom of sending razors (sharp weapons). It is their belief that the culprit can be easily identified by the khud or khur challan.

Recently miscreants set fire to Hamidad’s family. In this incident, they wanted to issue a fine or a razor challan to catch the criminals. Opponents have given death threats to Hamidad’s family to prevent Khud Chalan. Hamida’s family said this.

In this regard, Naragati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shariful Islam said, initially, it is believed that the murder occurred due to prior enmity. Efforts are underway to arrest those involved in the incident.
