A huge tragedy shook football in South America. In the Peruvian city of Chilca, 39-year-old defender Jose Meza died after being struck by lightning.
Five other players were injured and taken to hospital in stable condition.
The tragedy occurred in a match between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca. In the first half, the first shot sounded, after which the referee immediately blew his whistle and sent the teams to the cabins.
But before they got there, lightning struck a second time, and this time it had fatal consequences. He hit straight at Mezo, who was left lying on the grass.
He was dead on the spot. Five other players were also left lying on the field, but they finally recovered and according to the Peruvian media, their lives are out of danger.
