A convertible with almost 900 hp without electric motors, manual transmission and that weighs less than a Dacia Duster

Horacio Pagani has been making cars that he likes for over 20 years. Trends and other fashions do not suit him. His new model proves it again. Neither electrification nor hybridization. At Pagani, what counts is beauty and performance. And the new Pagani Utopia Roadster more than fulfills its promise on those fronts.

Two years after the launch of the Utopia Coupé, Horacio’s dream factory produces the most logical and usual version in these cases, a convertible version. The Utopia Roadster is just as impressive and powerful as the Utopia Roadster. Of course, it remains faithful to the fundamentals of the brand: mind-blowing attention to detail and, of course, a powerful engine. V12 manufactured by AMG exclusively for Pagani.

Pagani Utopia Roadster: 864 hp for 1,280 kg

The Utopia Roadster maintains the 864 CV y 1.100 Nm of torque delivered by the twin-turbo V12 AMGan engine that remains Handcrafted by a single worker in Affalterbach, AMG’s headquarters. This hand-made block (it is one of the few V12s still in production in the world) is associated with an Xtrac transmission capable of managing the torque of the twin-turbo V12. Extremely compact and located transversely behind the engine, the seven speed manual gearbox It is connected to a triple-disc clutch.

This work of art on wheels, still a rear-wheel drive, weighs just 1,280 kg and sits on 21-inch wheels at the front and 22 at the rear. The monolithic aluminium alloy wheels are wrapped in rubber Pirelli P Zero Corsa.

And if further proof were needed that this car is made to be driven, Pagani also offers a set of winter tires for the brave who dare to tame its power in winter.

Pagani’s works are not characterized only by their mechanics or their performance (not yet revealed). Like every car born in Emilia Romagna, not far from Ferrari and Lamborghini, beauty is an inherent part of the car. It is in its DNA.

In this case, the Utopia Roadster is probably more beautiful and elegant, without losing that hint of brutality, than the coupe, especially in this red carbon fiber version.

The profile of the car, without a roof, is impressive and reveals a cabin that only Pagani knows how to make, in an exquisite mix of luxury, mechanics, craftsmanship and elegant grandiloquence that in any other brand would be seen as excessive. Not here.

Despite the removable roof, Pagani has kept the vertically opening doors. The roof mechanism, meanwhile, is very simple: just remove or put on its lightweight carbon roofwhich is stored behind the seats when not in use.

But ease of use does not necessarily mean simplicity. Pagani considers the removable roof so special that in its press release it highlights that it can be used in three different ways.

It can be attached to the car for a coupe-like driving experience or for shelter from the elements, it can be removed for open-air driving, and the third is that it can even be used as art. “The roof can be placed on a stand, transforming it into a designer piece to be looked at and admired.”
