The liver is the only organ in the human body that has the capacity for natural regeneration, being a true biological factory, with over 500 functions. Among other things, the liver is responsible for processing and storing carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins and minerals.
Doctors recommend several healthy foods that can cleanse the liver of toxins. Specifically, nutritionists claim that there are a number of miracle foods that can detoxify liver cells, acting like liver cleansing supplements.
Just as some foods are harmful to the liver (fried foods, sweets, processed products), there are also foods that have a soothing effect on this organ.
Pineapple is one of these foods, being particularly recommended for people suffering from liver diseases.
Enzyme with the role of conditioner
In addition to being rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, pineapple contains an ingredient that is particularly beneficial for the liver – bromelain. This is an enzyme that contributes to the disintegration of toxins in the body, thus facilitating their elimination from the body, according doc.ro.
More than that, pineapple also contains vitamin C, beneficial for liver health, but also for maintaining a strong immune system.
No excesses!
Doctors, however, point out that pineapple should not be consumed in excess, due to the rich content of manganese, which can become toxic to the body if the maximum allowed limit of 11 mg/day is exceeded. Thus, there is a risk of neurological complications such as Parkinson’s disease, due to the excessive amount of manganese.
In addition, watch out for canned pineapple, which contains added sugars and preservatives, which are not at all beneficial for the liver.
It is recommended to consume pineapple in its natural state, in the form of juice prepared at home or as such, cut into slices or cubes. Pineapple can also be eaten in fruit salad. This fruit should be kept at room temperature, but if sliced, it should be kept cold in the refrigerator.
Contraindications
Although pineapple is extremely healthy, there are also situations in which it is not recommended to be consumed. For example, pineapple is contraindicated in large quantities during a treatment with beta-blockers.
These drugs prescribed for heart conditions can cause the level of potassium in the blood to increase. Foods rich in potassium, such as pineapple, should be consumed in limited quantities if you are taking beta-blockers.
Patients with gastroesophageal reflux may have to deal with an exacerbation of gastric symptoms following the consumption of foods with increased acidity, such as pineapple.
