A curiosity during early voting in Kaunas: electricity went out

The press representative of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Indrė Ramanavičienė 15min confirmed that the electricity did indeed go out in Kaunas City Municipality, but the voting did not stop.

“As the end of the voting was approaching, the electricity went out in the big hall of the Kaunas City Municipality, where the voting is taking place,” said the representative of the Central Election Commission.

According to her, the commission organizing the early voting informed that the reception of voters and the voting process were not disrupted as a result.

“The computers of the Election Commission are working, so the reception of voters continues. Commissioners work with flashlights, and voters with mobile phones,” said I. Ramanavičienė.

According to her, an electrician has come to the municipality at the moment. It is expected that the lighting in the voting hall will be restored in the near future.

Later in the evening, the Supreme Electoral Commission issued a press release informing them that the voting was still taking place at dusk.

“Colleagues working in Kaunas informed us that there are currently no voters waiting in line outside, and voters voting at dusk are very understanding.

As far as we know, an electrician was already working in the municipal building after 19:00, the problem is being solved. We apologize to the voters for such an unusual voting experience and we hope that the lighting in the voting hall will be restored in the near future,” said the CEC in a press release.

What is early voting?

15min reminds that early voting in the Seimas elections is organized on October 8-10, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

It takes place in every municipality and in some places – at special points.

All voters who will not be able to come to their polling station on election day, October 13, can vote in advance.
