A Ukrainian drone attack hit the town of Enerhodar in Zaporizhia, rendering the transformer of the Zarya substation inoperable, the press service of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant announced on Friday on its Telegram channel.

According to the information, the substation damaged by the drone is located in the immediate vicinity of the area of ​​the nuclear power plant under Russian control and plays a role in the power supply of the facility’s infrastructural facilities. “An attack against it poses a potential threat to the safety of the nuclear power plant,” the statement said. According to the press service, the station’s employees turned on the backup system that provides power to the nuclear power plant’s infrastructural facilities, thus guaranteeing safe operation.

The announcement also mentions that all safety parameters are under control, background radiation does not exceed natural values. Enerhodar’s civilian infrastructure was hit by a Ukrainian drone attack during the day on Friday. There were no personal injuries. Eduard Senovoz, head of the Enerhodar public administration, stated that Ukrainian attacks against Enerhodar’s infrastructure have become regular, which directly affects the safety of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. As he said, the Ukrainian side is deploying almost its entire artillery arsenal, some are also attacking with FPV drones. Zaporizhzhya is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, both in terms of the number of units and the installed capacity. Following the invasion of Ukraine in October 2022, the facility was placed under Russian control.
