A factory closes its doors: hundreds of employees laid off

The Artsana factory in Botoșani, which produces children’s accessories, has decided to cease its activity and fire its employees, according to an official announcement published in the Official Gazette. The decision to dissolve and go into voluntary liquidation was made without the appointment of a liquidator, and the closure operations have been planned since the spring and have now been formalized.

Artsana România SRL, a company with Italian shareholding, was involved in the “Manufacturing of other articles of clothing”, producing mainly textile components for the Chicco brand, known for strollers and car seats intended for children. In 2022, the company had 504 employees, but the economic decline of recent years has led to a significant decrease in staff.

Although in 2021 Artsana recorded a turnover of 41.9 million lei, the company suffered a financial loss of over 5 million lei. In 2023, turnover decreased by almost 30%, reaching 30.5 million lei, and losses increased to 8 million lei. In this context, the number of employees fell to 367, a decline that prefaced the definitive closure of the factory.

This financial and operational collapse marks a significant loss for the local industry and community of Botoșani, the factory being an important regional employer.
