The famous Campbell Soup company is preparing to change its name. Directors of the 155-year-old Campbell Soup Company plan to change the name of the famous company to Campbell’s Company. Basically, the word soup will be dropped because the company has diversified its offer.
Chief executive Mark Clouse said the change aims to better reflect Campbell’s growing product line, which now includes soups, sauces, snacks and drinks, according to the BBC.
“We will always love soup and will never take our eyes off this important business. But today, we are much more than soup,” Clouse said.
The first company to sell canned soup
Investors are due to vote on the name change at the company’s annual meeting in November.
While canned soup remains a key part of the business, the company has sought to adapt to a changing market by acquiring other firms such as sauce maker Rao. Campbell’s portfolio also includes Goldfish crackers, Cape Cod crisps, V8 drinks and Prego sauces.
The company’s specialists decided to diversify the product line because the canned soup is eaten especially by the elderly population.
Campbell’s was the first company to sell canned soup more than a century ago.
