Slovak swimmer Tamara Potocka fainted after the women’s 200m individual medley. The 21-year-old Slovakian athlete was seen wearing an oxygen mask as she was taken out of the pool on a stretcher.
Potocka had finished seventh in the third heat of the test in the morning session at Arena La Defense in Nanterre, Paris.
The venue’s media manager confirmed that Potocka was conscious and under medical evaluation, Reuters news agency reported.
The Paris 2024 Games mark her Olympic debut
Potocka collapsed after emerging from the water and was immediately surrounded by a group of paramedics. It is unclear if she was resuscitated.
The 2024 Paris Olympics marks her Olympic debut. Her time of two minutes, 14.20 seconds was not fast enough to advance to the semifinals of the event, eliminating her from the competition.
