A fire broke out at the Czech embassy in Paris today. Czech Foreign Ministry spokesman Daniel Drake confirmed the information to ČTK. All employees have been evacuated and part of the embassy is now out of order. Two people suffered smoke inhalation, but no one was hospitalized. The French server actu.fr reports on three slightly injured. The fire is now under control.
“We can confirm that there was a fire,” Drake told CTK in the early evening, according to which the fire broke out for unknown reasons in one of the apartments of the embassy. “No one was hurt,” Drake also said, adding that although two employees suffered smoke inhalation, they were treated at the scene.
According to the French server, the flames appeared around 2:00 p.m., and after the fire was brought under control, fire intervention he continued. 60 firefighters responded to the scene and the area around the embassy was closed.
Czech Ambassador to France Michal Fleischmann told ČTK that the embassy building is without electricity and water, so everyone has to temporarily move out. Although the fire did not affect the diplomatic or security part of the embassy, black dust covers everything and there is smoke everywhere, he said.
According to Fleischmann, who also spoke of two people who inhaled smoke, initial information indicates that the fire was caused by an electrical short in the apartment of the caretaker, which was completely burned. “We will fix what is necessary by the start of the Olympics, the consulate is functional because it is elsewhere. The consular department will function normally, the embassy will also function,” added the ambassador. The Summer Olympics in Paris begin on July 26.
